Excursion to Puri and Konark Sun Temple

What this tour is about: This is a full day excursion to see the Jagannath Temple at Puri and also visit the Sun Temple of Konark en route. The temple, built in the 11th century, is today an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. Puri is also famous for its annual Rath Yatra in June, or chariot festival, in which the main temple deities are brought outside the temple in a huge procession on elaborately decorated vehicles.

Please note that the Jagannath Temple is open only to Hindus. Non-Hindus can visit Puri city and beach; but cannot enter the temple.

Plan for the day:
Depart Bhubaneswar at 7:30 a.m.
Visit Konark 9:00 to 10:30
Scenic drive to Puri 1.5hrs and have lunch
Visit temple 1:30 to 2:30 (alternatively, go on a rickshaw tour of old city)
Visit the beach and do some souvenir shopping 2:30 to 4:00
Return to Bhubaneswar by 7:30 p.m.
