Duration: 4-5 hours
All days of the week, Oct-Mar
What this tour is about: Chilika Lake is the largest brackish water lagoon in India. It is the largest wintering ground for migratory waterfowl in the country. It is 1.5 hours drive from Bhubaneswar.
On account of its rich bio-diversity, Chilika has been designated as a Ramsar Site (a wetland of International Importance). It supports some of the largest congregations of migratory birds in the country, particularly during the winter.
Flocks of waterfowl arrive from as far as the Caspian Sea, Lake Baikal, Aral Sea, remote parts of Russia, Kirghiz steppes of Mongolia, Central and South East Asia, Ladakh and the Himalayas, to feed and breed in its fertile waters
We will pick you up from your hotel in Bhubaneswar and drive to the village of Mangalajodi (1.5hrs). From here, we take a boat and explore the lake. The guides for the tour are knowledgeable local villagers who have turned from bird poachers to eco-guides. We will provide binoculars for the tour.
